Ideas and influences

The human form has fascinated me since early classes in life drawing and life sculpture and this has stayed with me throughout my training to the present time.  Human and animal forms can be very visually expressive in themselves but I aim to give my work deeper meaning through the ideas behind the work. Sometimes I am inspired by the social context of our lives, values, attitudes and prejudices, current affairs and politics and want to comment on this.  Sometimes I am inspired by things seen or heard, memories or feelings.  In trying to express  the ideas in an accessible way I often draw on humour and on earlier traditions in art, trying to find forms which vividly convey the concepts to the viewer.
